We are so happy you are here! During this time, the Roycemore School campus is closed, but learning continues and so does the important work of the Admissions and Financial Aid Team.
In lieu of in-person meetings and campus tours, we have created this page in order to provide you with important information, resources, and opportunities to hear from Roycemore community members. We hope you will reach out with questions and/or to schedule a phone call or video chat.
We are all in this together and all of us here at Roycemore are here to help support you as you consider the right fit for your child’s educational future.
-The Roycemore Team
As we enter the 2020-2021 school year, it is our highest priority to ensure the safety of our Roycemore students and teachers.
Our combination of small classes and a large building enable us to provide on-campus instruction with social distancing protocols in place. These images show how our classrooms can be organized in a way that follows the required guidelines according to our Health and Safety Plan.

Roycemore is one of the most diverse schools on the North Shore, with students from a wide variety of cultural, socio-economic and geographic backgrounds. Teachers are always available to provide one-on-one support and quickly understand how to motivate students, taking them from where they are to where they aspire to be, in order to succeed in Roycemore’s academically challenging college-prep program. Just as every student at Roycemore is treated as an individual, we understand that every path to enrollment is as unique as the family undertaking the process. I have provided you with a helpful application guide. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Parents are the backbone of the family and families are the backbone of the Roycemore community. We are lucky to have a number of parents across all divisions that value the type of educational experience that we are poised to deliver to their children. But don’t just take our word for it. Feel free to listen and read our parent testimonials about what the Roycemore experience has meant to their families.
“My daughter started Roycemore in Middle School and it has been a wonderful experience for our entire family. Prior to attending Roycemore, our daughter’s self-confidence and love of school had slowly been whittled away. Only a few weeks into her first year at Roycemore, our daughter was waking up and looking forward to attending school again. She engaged in extra-curricular activities and her confidence slowly returned. The teachers and students made her feel welcome and included from her first day. My husband and I wish we had made the move sooner!”
– From a Middle School Parent
6:1 Student to Teacher
Roycemore school is small by design and our small class sizes provide teachers with an environment where they can identify the individual talents and unique needs of each student in their classroom. In addition, a strong student-teacher relationship gives kids the confidence to have their voices heard and feel comfortable taking risks socially and academically. Our average class size is 15 students. For example, a typical math class has the following:
8 students in a typical Upper School math class
14 students in a typical Middle School math class
10 students in a typical Lower School math class
Leadership and Community
We focus a lot on social and emotional development at Roycemore, including leadership. It starts in the Lower School with the The Leader in Me program. The goal of this program is to introduce the idea that each person at our school has the essential qualities needed to become a wonderful leader. In Middle School, students participate in an advisory program where small groups meet with a faculty mentor weekly to discuss a range of meaningful topics such as character building, emotional development, social needs, and more. Advisory continues when students move into the Upper School but their opportunity to serve as role models increase during this time. Whether it be through various clubs, activities, or student government, Upper School students at Roycemore take their position as school leaders seriously, serving their school community with integrity and compassion.
Theme Week
Theme Week is a one week experience where Lower School students take a deep dive into a theme that broadens their educational horizons. Students work in multi-age groups and participate in true project based learning. Past themes have included We are the World, The Earth Beneath Our Feet, Climate Change, Art Through Our Eyes, Architecture, and Problem Solved! They then get to proudly present their Theme Week work at an Expo to parents and other students.
Personal Passion Projects (P3)
The Personal Passion Project (P3) is an exercise in Design Thinking and challenges Middle School students to focus on a problem of their interest. This program allows students to think outside the box, and enhance their problem solving, investigative, and critical thinking skills. During the project, students will interview real users whom they are solving the problem for and develop prototypes for solutions to the problem. They will test their prototypes with real users, obtain feedback and then iterate on their solutions. At the end of the project, students will share their work with the wider community.
School Activities and Culture
Since 1915, Roycemore School has maintained a school culture that intertwines with the school’s mission and vision. The School’s mascot, a Griffin, represents creativity, strength, and individuality. Our “Griffinity” is what makes Roycemore a unique and magical school. That magic has been maintained by teachers and staff who have the Griffin-like spirit in them. Therefore, Roycemore encourages students to participate and try new things such as playing interscholastic sports, joining student government, competing on academic teams, performing with musical and theatre troupes, and tumbling. These extracurricular activities help students build their self esteem, encourage teamwork, and promote positive leadership and school spirit, all within our safe and supportive environment.
Adobe Partnership
We are proud to have a partnership with Adobe Inc. that brings important digital resources to the students of Roycemore and allows them to expand their creative potential. Our Design Thinking initiative introduces a problem-solving approach to the curriculum that all students experience, starting in Pre-K through Upper School. This approach has been prevalent in businesses and organizations around the globe, but is relatively new to the educational world. Adobe was instrumental in securing Creative Cloud licenses for the entire faculty and student population at Roycemore and continues to provide additional teaching support based on the digital needs of our students.
College Counseling
The tools Roycemore facilitates to our upperclassmen traditionally results in a 100% college acceptance rate, with the majority of students attending one of their top choices and 95% of graduates receiving college merit scholarships. In fact, the average merit scholarship award for the Class of 2019 was $202,273 per student, but high ranking AP exam results and above national norm SAT and ACT scores are just part of the picture. College Counseling is a 4-year process at Roycemore and students work with a full-time dedicated Director of College Counseling who helps to ensure that the strengths and interests of each individual student are the focus as they go through the process to find their perfect college fit.
NU Option
NU Option is a long-standing dual enrollment program between Roycemore and Northwestern University that provides Roycemore Upper School students with opportunities to take classes at the University for college credit. Once a student completes all prerequisite coursework available in a certain subject area at Roycemore, they can apply to take the next course in the sequence at Northwestern. Courses are available in most subject areas. When a student is accepted into the NU Option program, their annual Roycemore tuition covers any classes they take at Northwestern. No additional college tuition is charged.
January Short Term (JST)
At Roycemore, we strive to provide students with opportunities to develop independence and self-advocacy. Upper School students are required to participate in January Short Term (JST) each school year. JST is a three week independent or small-group study that occurs between the first and second semesters in January. During JST, students are given opportunities to delve into subject areas of personal interest and explore projects that may lead them into future career paths. Each student produces a JST portfolio comprised of a daily journal and a digital artifact. The portfolio is reviewed by the student’s advisor, project director and JST coordinator and students present their projects to the greater community in their annual JST Expo.
