Job Overview
Roycemore’s Portrait of a Griffin emphasizes the importance of Emotional Intelligence to the development of our student body. Specifically, it identifies Resilience, Independence, Perseverance, Interpersonal Skills, and Empathy as identifiable qualities of a Roycemore student. This role will enable students to achieve to their fullest potential academically by assisting students in developing their Emotional Intelligence in the school setting and beyond.
Reporting directly to the Dean of Student Life, the School Counselor/Social Worker assists students in developing, selecting, and applying emotional regulation strategies to support their academic success. The School Counselor/Social Worker does not provide ongoing therapeutic support services, but does act as a liaison between the school and outside support services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide assessment and support of students in grades PK-12 that demonstrate needs that exceed Tier 1 interventions.
- Provide crisis intervention, as needed.
- Act as school case manager for students receiving outside mental health treatment.
- Manage and create accommodation plans for students that need counseling-related accommodations at school.
- Serve as team member of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) team.
- Conduct and facilitate meetings with families and faculty when appropriate.
- Write socio-emotional behavioral intervention progress reports for possible consideration for public school IEP/504, as needed
- Provide support during family transitions (health, divorce, separation, death)
- Provide consultation to faculty when appropriate.
- Update the administration on struggling students on a regular basis.
- Consult with and support faculty and staff in managing students who might be in ongoing treatment or in crisis, as appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate and accurate records.
- Attend student team conferences and division meetings as needed to discuss a student’s socio-emotional needs and to provide recommendations
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Qualifications & Skills
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field; at least 3 years of experience working with school aged children in a school setting preferred.
- Professional Educator License and clinical license preferred (LCSW, LPC).
- Enthusiasm for professional development
- Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising, and supporting students outside the classroom
- Working knowledge of Windows and/or Macintosh operating systems
- Experience with G-Suite/Google Apps for Education (preferred)
- Comfortable using online texts, iPads, student information systems, and other computer systems
- Able to use basic office equipment
