This is my 13th year as Roycemore’s Middle School Learning Specialist. Previously, I served as a Learning Behavior Specialist in local public schools and an adjunct faculty for post-secondary students with learning needs. I also spent more than a decade working at Northeastern Illinois University’s library. My experience included supervising the Multimedia Learning Center, instructing patrons in the use of educational software.

Why do you teach? What is the impact you hope to make on students?

I am the product of compassionate educators who opened the windows of learning for me. Through their mentorship, I learned the value of persevering until I understood a new idea or concept, discovering my own abilities and the joy of learning. I view teaching as my calling; it is the career into which I can invest my heart and best use my skill set. I feel strongly about the positive impact access to learning can have on students, especially with a history of learning challenges and/or perceived failures. Students need someone to walk beside them, believing they will discover their limitless potential and the jewel of abilities within, waiting to be discovered and refined. I want to support them to experience the joy of learning, growing into independent learners who can share this legacy with future generations.
