Julie Herrick – Lower, Middle & Upper School Music

Julie Herrick

My name is Julie Herrick and I am in my eighth year of teaching, with seven of them being at Roycemore. I earned my Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Elmhurst College, where I played clarinet in the Wind Ensemble and sang with the Chamber Singers and Vocal Jazz Ensembles. I graduated with honors as well as a vocal performance certificate. I was trained classically, but also have experience in singing musical theater and vocal jazz.

Currently, I teach general music and Choir in the Lower and Middle School. In the Upper School, I teach Music Theory and Piano Studies. I also teach AP Music Theory on alternating years. In addition, I direct the Upper School Choir, A Capella Choir, Variety Show, and Fall Musical. Past shows have included The Sound of Music, Little Shop of Horrors, Rent, Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, Les Misérables, and The Little Mermaid. I also direct the Lower School Musical, which have included kids’ versions of Aladdin, The Aristocats, Willy Wonka, The Lion King, and Seussical.

I live in the Northwest Suburbs with my husband, Jonathan, and two dogs (Charlie and Riley). I enjoy playing piano, singing, watching 90’s reruns, arranging choral music, and spending time with my family and friends.

Why do you teach? What is the impact you hope to make on students?

As I teach across all grade levels, I have the opportunity to teach many of the same students for several years. I get to see them grow up and evolve as people. I hope to instill a love and appreciation of music in their lives, but more importantly to be a positive influence.

Why Roycemore?

I like that Roycemore is a nurturing environment that still holds everyone to a high standard. Students and faculty are encouraged to be themselves, as individuality is celebrated.
