I studied French, Political Science, and German at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where I embraced the opportunity to study abroad in France, Morocco, and Germany. I was also actively involved in classical music programs and the Model United Nations club. At St. Olaf, I tutored French and worked as a German Teaching Assistant. My passion for foreign languages, cultures, and international affairs led me to the Concordia Language Villages. At the French immersion camp, Lac du Bois, I worked as a summer camp counselor for two summers, teaching French and francophone culture in a fun, activity-based immersion setting. My experience as an immersion camp counselor drives my fun, game and activity-oriented teaching style that engages students and gets them excited about learning.
Before coming to Roycemore, I was a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant recipient, and I spent the 2019-2020 academic year in Luxembourg teaching English. As a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, I served as a cultural ambassador for the United States and immersed myself in learning about other countries and cultures. In addition to teaching, I spent the past year meeting Ambassadors, engaging with the U.S. Embassies in Luxembourg and Belgium, and visiting NATO headquarters as well as the legislative and judicial branches of the European Union. As a result of my time studying and living abroad in Francophone countries, I believe in cultural education.
I am from the Western suburbs of Chicago. In my free time, I enjoy knitting, cooking, and playing the cello.
“L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.” (That which is essential is invisible to the eyes)
–Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
I teach to inspire the next generation of global citizens. I love teaching Francophone culture alongside the French language in order to foster the intercultural curiosity that encourages students to become citizens of the world. This is especially important given our ever more connected world today. I hope to encourage my students to learn and get excited about the different cultures and languages of the vastly diverse world of which they are just one part.
Roycemore has a unique, independent approach to learning that values diversity and students’ individuality, and I am excited to contribute to such an admirable educational mission. Roycemore’s small class sizes, creative approach to learning, and dedication to promoting intellectual curiosity create an optimal learning environment.
