Roycemore Athlete Theo Huston Signs to D1 Fencing Team
On the afternoon of February 15th, members of the Roycemore School community gathered to celebrate senior Theo Huston’s signing and commitment to the Wagner College Men’s Fencing team for his college career.
Upper School Division Head Stefanie Rivera brought a joyful mood as she snapped candid photos of the signing. Athletic Director Craig Tutt ensured that the Huston family - mom Karen, dad James, and sibling (and Roycemore alum) Lauren - were included in the celebrations. Head of School Chris English was also on hand to congratulate Theo on his academic and athletic accomplishments at Roycemore.
Theo joins the inaugural Wagner College men’s fencing team, coached by David Sierra, and is excited and honored to be a part of the expansion of the school’s athletic program. In addition to signing with the team, Theo received an athletic scholarship to Wagner in recognition of his talent as a fencer. The Wagner College Seahawks compete in the NCAA Division 1 for men’s fencing and will compete for the first time in the 2023-2024 season. Last year, Wagner College’s women’s fencing team celebrated its sixth season by sending a program-record seven athletes to Regionals.
In addition to being a multi-sport athlete at Roycemore, Theo participates in several clubs and artistic organizations, including the Teen Empowerment Club and Art Club, and is an honor roll student at Roycemore. He is a club fencer with Lincoln Square Fencing, coached by Clinton Smith, and competes in Men’s Saber.
Theo’s commitment to academic achievement, athletic excellence, and community service exemplifies so many of the values of Roycemore’s Portrait of a Graduate. He is a curious student, an empathetic friend and community member, and a leader on the mat. The Roycemore community wishes him continued success in his future endeavors at Wagner.
