This Faculty Friday, we’re introducing you to Liv Garcia, Roycemore’s Advancement Coordinator. 

As Advancement Coordinator, Liv works across the Marketing, Admissions, and Development teams to support the school. During the week, you might find them greeting prospective families at an admissions morning, stuffing envelopes for a development campaign, or running around the school creating content for social media. This multifaceted role means that they have contact with every Roycemore division, and they love to be a part of the collaborative effort of making the school run smoothly!

Liv hails from North Carolina, where they spent their childhood playing in rivers, hiking through the woods, and making up stories to perform for the other kids in their neighborhood. After attending performing arts boarding school, they studied Directing and Women’s and Gender Studies at DePaul and conducted a senior capstone project to develop a more equitable and intersectionally feminist rehearsal environment for actors. Liv’s theatrical practice explores feminism, classical stories, and ensemble-created work, and they bring their love of communication across all types of media to their work. 

Roycemore’s commitment to experiential learning, individualized education, and creating engaged citizens reminds Liv of their own experience as a student at the Duke School, a private independent school in Durham, NC. While there, they experienced the impact of a community-engaged education for the first time and are honored to be a part of a school community that continues that practice with the next generation. As a mentor and teaching artist, Liv believes that the most important thing education can do is remind young people of their voice and power, and they see that every day at Roycemore.

In their free time, you can probably find Liv exploring coffee shops, walking by the lake, or making a killer charcuterie board. They also love visiting Chicago’s many museums (the MCA and Legacy Walk are personal favorites) and reading as much as they can!
