2021-2022 Thomas J. Ellis Community Service Award
Roycemore School recently held its annual Celebration of Dedication and Excellence, a tradition started by the Board of Trustees, that honors the dedicated faculty, staff, and volunteers of the Roycemore community.
One of the awards given out at the ceremony is the Thomas J. Ellis Community Service Award. The award was named in honor of Thomas J. Ellis, who served on Roycemore’s Board of Trustees as its Chair for 14 years. Tom’s devoted service, kindness, and compassion for our mission served as an inspiration to all. Tom ensured that the many transitions under his leadership were smooth and supported, and he provided a foundation for the continuation of Roycemore School.
This year’s award recipient exemplifies the core values of the school. He is respectful, compassionate, and kind. He is a quiet, yet strong leader in our Upper School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, is on the yearbook staff, and volunteers at Open House events. Outside of Roycemore, he volunteers at food pantries and other non-profits in the community. This year for his January Short Term project he chose to volunteer with an organization on the United States border to help migrants. One of his nominees wrote, “He sees a need and he wants to jump in to help others no matter what the cost is because he wants to make others’ lives better and the world a better place.” This student not only serves as an ambassador for Roycemore School, displaying excellent citizenship in our school community but goes beyond Roycemore’s campus to be of service to the community at large.
At this year’s Celebration of Dedication of Excellence, our Head of School presented the Thomas J. Ellis Community Service Award to Tomás Prendergast. Congratulations, Tomás!
