Roycemore Welcomes International Students! 歡迎 - 欢迎 - Bienvenue - ΥΠΟΔΟΧΉ - Willkommen - Bienvenidos

At Roycemore, we consider international students to be an integral part of our student body. Roycemore prides itself on having a diverse and intimate community that brings together students of many nationalities, ethnicities, and religions in the pursuit of knowledge. Over the past 10 years, we hosted students from Afghanistan, Africa, China, Denmark, England, Germany, Greece, Japan, South Korea, and Spain.

What benefits do international students gain by attending Roycemore?

First and foremost, we prepare students for college education and for responsible citizenship in a global society through our strong college prep curriculum and an emphasis on the individual student. 100% of our graduates are accepted to college. We offer a broad curriculum with many Advanced Placement (AP) classes so that students are well prepared to do college-level work. All sports and activities Roycemore has to offer are available to interested students, whether they want to perfect their basketball game or try singing in the chorus for the first time.

At Roycemore, students have the opportunity to make valuable connections to faculty and peers, resulting in friendships that will last a lifetime. These relationships, in addition to Roycemore’s small, close-knit community, become especially important as students settle into an often unfamiliar place.

How does my child apply to Roycemore?

We are excited that you’d like to apply to Roycemore! The forms needed may be downloaded here, according to the American grade level. The application materials to be submitted to Roycemore include a transcript from a current school, three letters of recommendation, an SSAT or ISEE standardized exam, a birth certificate, passport copies, and a writing sample. Aside from birth certificate and passport copies, all materials must be in English or translated into English. Also, once enrolled, international students are required to obtain medical insurance from a local provider.

We also ask for the opportunity to interview the applicant. This is normally done in person during a school visit, but if the student is not able to visit in person, we will conduct the interview via WeChat or over the phone. Unfortunately, there is no financial assistance available for international students.

Due to the cost of shipping documents abroad via airmail, the application fee for students applying from outside the United States is $275.

If you have any questions about the admissions process for international students, please e-mail Director of Admissions Angela Peters Murphy at amurphy@roycemoreschool.org or call (847) 866-6055.

What age should my child be?

Students that would turn 20 years of age before graduating from Roycemore cannot be considered for admission.

Does my child need to speak English?

Yes. Roycemore requires that all international students applying for grades 1 and higher be proficient in English at or near grade level. We do require that students take the TOEFL with a minimum score of 90, or an equivalent English test. DuoLingo scores are accepted. We will verify this through his/her English grades and an in-person or telephone interview. We do not offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at Roycemore.

What is the international student fee?

Students who must be issued a Form I-20 “Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Status” by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) in order to study in the United States are considered International Students. There is a $6,500 annual International Student fee for students who benefit from the support services of Roycemore School’s International Student Liaison.

Does Roycemore offer boarding or host placement?

No. Roycemore is a day school with no option to stay on campus. We also do not offer placements with host families. Students will need to work with an agency to arrange to stay with an adult/family who must function as the student’s guardian while he or she attends Roycemore School. Students in grades 7 and below should ideally live with one or both parents while in attendance.

What type of VISA does my child need?

In order to attend Roycemore as an international student, your child will need to obtain an F1 visa. If the student is currently studying in the United States under a parent’s visa, documentation will need to be provided to Roycemore prior to his/her acceptance.

How do I obtain a VISA for my child?

The United States government mandates that schools use a system of tracking international students called SEVIS. Once your student is accepted and enrolls, we will apply to SEVIS for an I-20 with a special barcode attached. Once we issue it, that I-20 should be taken to your consulate or embassy so that your visa can be issued. An I-20 WILL NOT be released until you have been accepted and enrolled in Roycemore and have paid the $1,000 US enrollment deposit.

"During the years that my son attended Roycemore, I learned that it is a place where everybody cares for each other and the students learn to support one another. People say, if you want to help someone, don't give them a fish, but teach them how to fish. In this spirit, I would like to say 'thank you so much for teaching my son how to think and how to develop different perspectives."
