Faculty Friday: Stefanie Rivera

Meet Stefanie Rivera, Upper School Division Head

Stefanie hails from Austria originally but has spent most of her life here in the Chicago area. This is her 17th year as an educator and her 9th year at Roycemore School. Stefanie spent 10 years as a classroom teacher of English and Performing Arts before stepping into her current role as Upper School Division Head. Prior to teaching, Stefanie had a career in theatre and still uses those skills on a daily basis. She is currently working with Upper School students to create Roycemore’s first Horror Film, a student-led idea.

Ms. Rivera’s favorite part about Upper School at Roycemore is January Short Term. “It’s such a unique and enriching opportunity for students to explore an area of passion and interest.”

The size of Roycemore’s Upper School allows students and faculty members to know each other on an individual basis. It also allows students to be in the driver’s seat of their high school experience with flexibility in choosing their classes, creating a club they are interested in, or gaining real-world experience through an independent study during January Short Term.

Stefanie says, “I find it incredibly rewarding to see young people achieve. I hope I am successful in students realizing their self-worth, finding their individual voice, and learning the importance of community, leadership, and resilience.”

When asked, “Why Roycemore?” Ms. Rivera said, “Roycemore is my second home. I have always felt I can be my true self here.” This is a sentiment felt by faculty and students alike.
