Why did I choose University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign? That’s a good question. To be very honest, it was far from my first choice. However, life doesn’t always work out the way we want it to and let me say that now, I am super happy with this choice and can’t wait for these next 4 years. UIUC is a very big school, and that alone is a pro for me. Coming from a small private high school, I’m ready to make a lot of long-lasting friendships and meet a lot of new people who will have an impact on my life. I am going in as a math major, and UIUC is known to be one of the top math schools in the US, so I know I will get an amazing math education there. Apart from math, I have many hobbies, such as playing the violin and Russian literature. UIUC not only has a spectacular math program, but also an incredible music department and a large Russian department, with many choices of Russian literature classes for me. In addition, UIUC has an Illinois geometry lab (IGL), in which I plan to start doing applied mathematics research as soon as I can. Overall, as I see it now, U of I is the best place for me to be for my undergraduate education, and I am sure that it will set me up for a great path in life!
