Chinese cuisine is one of my favorite foods. I love the incredible flavors and combinations. And of course at the end of many Chinese meals you get a cookie. Not just any cookie–a fortune cookie! How many of us look forward to breaking open that cookie to read the quote on the slip inside and secretly hope that it will provide us some inspiration? Perhaps something to make us think? Or perhaps to give us hope?
As we approach the end of the year, I ask you, what Good Fortune do you hope for in the new year? What do you hope for you, and what do you hope for your child? Rather than looking back on what might have been, look forward at what can be and encourage your children to do so as well. Encourage them to focus on what they can focus on and do in the present to ensure that they have “Good Fortune” in the coming year. Such present decisions can range from taking care of their physical health–such as my encouragement for sleep–a theme that we began our year with. They can be decisions about how they will spend their time to learn new skills or gain expertise in a specific area. They can even be how they might further embrace Roycemore’s core values or the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People that we espouse.
The end of a year gives us the opportunity to be grateful for all the people who have had an influence in our lives, as well as all of the experiences we have had. And the beginning of a new year gives us a clean slate to embrace the possibilities ahead.
I wish us all Good Fortune in the year ahead. Happy Holidays!!
