Coming from Chicago, Iowa is the epitome of the exact place I never thought I’d end up. But Grinnell’s charm makes one oblivious to the isolating rurality that you would expect from a “middle of nowhere” town. I could list the many things that attracted me to Grinnell, and go into deep depth on why all of them were important to me: the small community, the open curriculum, the 365-acres of conserved prairie. But the most important element, the one that made jump head first into Early Decision, is a feeling that is not easily described in words. The best way to phrase it is that visiting Grinnell, eating dinner in the dining hall, spending the night, going into town for a chai tea latte and a book…it felt normal. It didn’t feel as though it were an exhilarating, one-time experience. It was like I subconsciously knew that the next part of my life would be spent within those few blocks of downtown Grinnell.
