I have been welcomed into the Honors Program at St. Edward’s. This means that I will be surrounded by like-minded and dedicated scholars in my housing and other activities. With a small student to faculty ratio, St. Edward’s is renowned for its various foreign language and cultural experience programs. This intimate class setting allows for learners like myself to form the bonds required for academic success.
St. Edward’s University is a Catholic University. This will allow me to stay connected to my religious roots while away from home. Knowing that I will be able to continue the same service at my new parish as I do at home is important. They have the opportunity for me to continue to give back to my religious community as well, with service projects, volunteer hours, and retreats offered to students.
The city of Austin has a thriving, eclectic community known for its appreciation of the arts and music. The school and city are home to a large Latino population – a group that I will be able to align myself with when I miss my own community at home in Chicago – to remind me of my beginnings, but also to allow me to work towards my future.
