Tom Ellis, Chair, Board of Trustees April 5, 2017
On behalf of the Roycemore School Board of Trustees and Search Committee, it is my privilege to announce that Adrianne Finley Odell will be our next Head of School beginning July 1, 2017. Adrianne’s unanimous selection was the culmination of a significant effort that included the screening of many qualified candidates, post-screening interviews, campus visits, and solicitation of observations and opinions from faculty, administration, students, parents, alumni and friends. We are grateful for the valuable input and meaningful support of our entire community throughout this process. Your voices were heard and your views respected.
Adrianne has spent the last 14 years as an independent school administrator and will be joining Roycemore from her current role as Assistant Head of School at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she has built a reputation as an adept facilitator, collaborator and leader focused on innovative education. At Shorecrest Adrianne has led strategic planning and master facilities planning, oversaw two multi-million dollar capital campaigns, led faculty through a re-design of an evaluation system to better support teaching and learning, and most recently has been working with faculty to integrate more interdisciplinary and project-based learning in the curriculum. Adrianne previously served as Director of Advancement at Shorecrest and Director of Development at The Calverton School in Huntingtown, Maryland. Adrianne completed the NAIS Fellowship for Aspiring Heads and the Improving Schools: The Art of Leadership program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She has also served as an instructor of economics and supported several curriculum committees including service on the board of the Global Scholars Initiative for Upper School students. Early in her career Adrianne was part of the start-up non-profit that worked with the United States Navy to relocate the Battleship Missouri to Pearl Harbor and turn it into a memorial-museum. She led a national capital campaign to raise funds for the restoration of the ship.
Adrianne earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies/Economics from The Ohio State University and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Adrianne will move to Evanston with her husband, Rich Odell, a former Head of School who now consults with educational institutions world-wide. Her daughter, Kai, is a freshman at Vassar College, while her step-son, Casey, lives and works in Los Angeles and her step-daughter Alex and husband Denton live in Lausanne, Switzerland. Adrianne grew up in Columbus, Ohio, where her parents, brother, and his family still reside.
Adrianne was thrilled to learn of her selection and is enthusiastic to begin building new and long-lasting relationships with all of the individuals who form our community. She said, “It is a true honor to have the confidence of the community to lead an education institution like Roycemore that honors its many traditions as a 100-year old school while embracing the important innovations necessary to prepare each student for success in the 21st century. Roycemore has significant strengths that provide a solid foundation to forge an exciting and successful ‘next chapter’ together. I can’t wait to begin working together to support our students.”
The Board of Trustees would like to convey its heart-felt thanks to Clark Daggett who has provided outstanding service as our Interim Head of School this past year and previously on our Board of Trustees. I also wish to thank the members of our Search Committee: Jose Luis Bretones (Chair), Jessica Collazo, Chadwick Cunningham, Tom Fogarty, Elizabeth Landon, Melinda Orzoff, Deborah Pergament and Howard Stanley. The Committee members each worked tirelessly and with great dedication accommodating the many meetings, visits, school tours, and receptions associated with this effort.
We look forward to introducing Adrianne to the Roycemore community over the coming weeks. Watch for announcements regarding those opportunities to meet her and get to know her better, and please join us in welcoming Adrianne and her family into our Roycemore family. Let’s provide her our full support as Roycemore’s Head of School. The future is bright, indeed!
