You are required to write a paper comparing and contrasting Islam to one other religion. You may choose any other major religion to compare to Islam. You may look at other different aspects of religion but must cover the following topics:

1)      The history of the religion: How they were founded and why?

            Make sure to cover the early years at least up to the split of Islam.

2)      Values: What are the basic values of the religion?

3)      Major questions: How these religions answer important questions Like:

Why are we here?

Why is there evil in the world?

What happens after death?

4)      Symbols: What are the main things that symbolize and play an important role in the religions? (Should come up at least 3-4 for each)

Your paper must be a minimum of four pages. The paper needs to have the following format: double spaced, 12 points normal font, 1 inch margins (all sides), ½ inch indent for paragraphs. You need to include a reference page with at least three book sources (one of them may be your textbook). The following guidelines will be checked and affect your final grade:

            Know your topic          due 1/11

            20 notecards               due 1/22

            Outline of paper          due 1/24

            Final paper                  due 1/28

You are welcome to turn in any of the above items ahead of time for early feedback.

You will need to go to the library to get books on your topic.  The majority of your information should come from books. You will need to do most of the work outside of class but should bring any books you might need in case there is some class time to work on the paper.
